Attempting Rumble Boxing As New Bee
The Initial Idea Bubble
For a while now, I wanted to go to an actual workout class, but I didn't know where I wanted to go. In LA, most people are some type of health nut, so as you can imagine, the options are limitless. I also wanted to take my time to get settled in a new city and get the ropes of my job training. So one day, while scrolling through my phone like all of us do, I saw an ad on my feed about Rumble. So that's where I started considering my options.
So...What's Rumble All About?
Think of it as a combination of a nightclub experience in a boxing workout class. If boxing HIIT classes are already up to your alley, then kudos! It's also first-timer friendly. No experience required was an intriguing point considering the workout class type. If you look at their Instagram, it gives a lot of helpful information.
I was hesitant to sign-up at first because I've only done yoga and pilates classes. Then, out of curiosity, I decided to try something different from my regular routine. After taking some time to do research, I went ahead and signed up for a class. So whoever is on their advertising and marketing team is killing it. They nailed their ideal user persona and demographics down to a T.
The Why + Delegating
My schedule within my job has not been as consistent as I would like. It truly depends on my job training, commute (because let's face it, LA traffic is no Bueno), and the clinic openings (I'm on call most of the time, so it's been different each week). So in light of those circumstances, I chose the goal of one class per week whenever I had time.
I didn't want to overshoot the goal, but I also needed it to be realistic. I didn't realize how helpful it has been to dedicate a little snippet of my day before diving into the usual responsibilities. It's genuinely been a big stress reliever for me. These last couple of weeks have been excellent but chaotic, to say the least. I dealt with stress in my personal and work life. So long story short, I needed a productive outlet to get out of my head and enjoy myself.
During the Rumble Class
I'm going to give it to you straight. I was nervous walking into my first class and didn't know what to expect. Walking into the studio, everyone was super friendly and welcoming. Going into the warm-up, the instructors go through each type of punch and how to do it. After that, there's a variety of punch combinations within each round. I wouldn't have been able to complete my first class successfully without the instructor walking through each step. In some past experiences trying different gyms, I was thrown into chaos and entirely out of sync with everyone. It's also a very motivating class. I was dying halfway through the workout, and no one judged (also, no one was paying attention because of the light situation and the workout intensity).
After Trying Rumble
Attempting this new workout changed my perspective and my expectations in a good way. Everyone is super friendly and chill when you walk in with zero judgment. Not going to lie, there were moments where it was intimidating seeing all sorts of people going hardcore, but I also met some people who go for fun. Everyone is on a different fitness journey, and it's inspiring to see everyone work for what they want, no matter the goal.
Some things you should know before trying Rumble or going to any new studio:
You never know unless you try.
Everyone has different fitness goals.
Getting adjusted to the routine switch-up takes time.
The progress is so worth it.
It helps with balancing your needs as well as life requirements.
It can always be intimidating doing something entirely out of your comfort zone, but it's been one of my favorite things to do while venturing out in LA. I'm also going to leave some food for thought. But, no matter how busy you are and what happens in life, I want you to think about this: How are you supposed to fill other people's cups if you aren't filling your own first?
